The ACS and its member clubs continue to develop new ideas and initiatives in an effort to remain relevant and to promote the best cymbidiums and their development. While being wary of “change for changes sake”, part of each annual delegates meeting is devoted to assessing how previous initiatives are performing and the consideration of new ideas to best recognize the developments taking place in cymbidium development and member interests.
New styles of cymbidium orchids are being developed all the time, specific breeding programs lead to new standards being set and new colours and combinations appearing and all of these developments are considered and recognized as appropriate.
Likewise new and innovative ideas regarding the displaying of cymbidiums at shows and possible artistic components of those displays need to be considered.
Education regarding the culture of cymbidiums must also be a priority as changes in potting mediums, fertilizers and the like occur. These days even the water restrictions applying in many parts of Australia demand changes in cultural practices and successful water wise growing methods need to be communicated.
The ACS and its member clubs have a strong commitment to remaining relevant and to being proactive in all areas relating to cymbidium orchids. Our clubs pride themselves on being enthusiastic and vibrant organizations, which perhaps explains why cymbidium clubs are among the few orchid clubs in Australia which are retaining and growing their memberships in this ever changing world. |
